DGMR is mainly engaged in research on uranium metallogenic theory and regularities, potential evaluation and metallogenic prognosis of uranium and poly-metallic mineral resources, geologic survey and evaluation of shale gas, etc., It is also the Technical support unit for the CAEA-IAEA Joint Technical Center for Uranium Resources Exploration.
During the past 55 years, a series of uranium metallogenic regularities and theories have been summarized, metallogenic prospecting models have been established, and a significant amount of uranium resources has been predicted and discovered. Presently DGMR possesses globally advanced petrological and mineralogical identification system, uranium metallogenic simulation system, and many sets of large-scaled integrated application software as well as many types of equipments for graphics and image processing, etc. DGMR has grade A qualification certificates in the fields of regional geological survey, exploration solid mineral resources, petrologic and mineralogical identification, hydrogeology, engineering geology as well as environment geological survey and very strong technological capability in these fields. 
    Now, DGMR conducts projects of uranium geology, geological survey and evaluation, key science & technology specific projects of CNNC, nuclear power development, advanced research projects of science and technology, National Basic Research Program of China (Program No.973), National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (Program No.863), National Science-Tech Tackle Key Project of China (Program No.305), National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as Overseas Prospecting and Evaluation Projects of Mineral Resources, etc..
